What I'm doing to save money...

Well, starting with the small things, I'm cutting back on my household stuff. Right now I'm leaving my phone service of 9 years (Verizon) in favor of Vonage.

Why am I doing this? Well, because last month I received my phone bill (which also includes my DirecTV) and it had jumped from $180 to $201 in one month's time -- and I don't use my long distance service, so I know it was just an increase in rates. So I decided to make the plunge. (Don't tell my husband -- he hates the thought of not having a *land line* phone.)

I placed my order online and waited about 5 days to receive the hardware through the mail. I had even arranged to transfer my existing number.

When I received my hardware and set it up (took about 10 minutes) my phone worked fine out out-bound calls, but inbound calls were not working properly and I had to keep a phone plugged "into the wall" to receive calls until the next day. The transition was essentially painless.

Now, after testing all the services, everything seems to be working properly.

Please bear in mind that you should not use this service with dial-up (at least I would not try it, considering the amount of bandwidth needed for voice data transfer). You'll want to make sure that your internet service is reliable and that if it DOES go down, you have a back up phone (such as a cell phone) that you can forward calls to should it go down.

Have questions about any aspects of my service with Vonage? Email me at nepharia@gmail.com. I would love to hear from you.

Pay-As-You-Go Newsletter Service

Most newsletter services require that you pay a monthly fee to keep your service going, even if you don't use it. We had the same problem with those types of services and started using this one.

You only pay when you send out a newsletter blast and it's based on how many people you send to, so you don't have to spend a whole lot even if you are only sending to a hundred or so people.
